Women in Tourism Appoint Future Industry Leader
Created to motivate, encourage, inspire and support women within the tourism sector, this morning it was announced that Julia MacGregor (pictured above) has been appointed to the Women In Tourism Board in celebration of the Year of Young People 2018.
Launched in December 2017, applications were invited from those working within Scottish tourism who were aged between 18-34 years old and sought a leadership role within the industry. Julia will participate as a board Director throughout 2018 and will be instrumental in leading activity in celebration of the themed year.
With a background in media relations and social media, Julia is currently the Social Media and Online Representative Manager for Apex Hotels. Key responsibilities include working in collaboration with industry organisations, leading on an extensive online influencer and social media strategy and maximizing brand opportunities for the hotel groups ten properties.
Tourism Secretary Fiona Hyslop said:
“The Year of Young People is about changing perceptions of young people and creating a lasting legacy well beyond 2018. Therefore I welcome that, during Scottish Tourism Month, Julia MacGregor has been appointed to a Year of Young People role on the Women In Tourism Board.
“The Scottish Government wants to ensure young people feel and believe that they are valued, wanted and vital to our country’s future – and that includes within our hugely important tourism sector.”
Susan Russell, Chair of Women In Tourism, said: “I’m delighted that Julia is joining Women In Tourism during this celebratory year of young people. Julia’s experience to date along with her aspirations and ambitions made her a strong contender for the position. We are excited for what she can bring to the Board, and to support her leadership development in the industry. As the sector shines a spotlight on the next generation of tourism leaders, we look forward to working with Julia throughout 2018.”
Julia MacGregor, #YOYP2018 board Director said: “I am thrilled to join the Women in Tourism Board and am eager to highlight the opportunities and variety of career paths available for the younger work force. 2018 is a particularly exciting year, both for Scotland and its emerging position on the world stage, and for young women in the tourism industry. I have no doubt there will be much to learn from my board colleagues, and I am excited to get started.”
Women In Tourism were overwhelmed with the level of interest and number of applications to join the board and are already considering how they can support future industry leaders beyond 2018.
On the evening of Wednesday 18 April, 2018, Women In Tourism are hosting a networking event on the theme of Future Tourism Leaders at the Radisson Collection Hotel, Edinburgh, where colleagues can meet Julia.
